Every year we take a beercation to Richmond Virginia and take a beer tour on a short bus that seats 14 for a guided tour to three of the local breweries. Flights of beers are included with the price and each brewery respectfully caters to the tour very quickly. The bus has complimentary snacks and refreshments during the ride. And the best part? You don’t have to drive. Since I was among friends, we started drinking before the tour. My memory is sparse and I still question how I had 6 beer cups, 4 bags of chips, four bottles of water and an old pack of cigarettes in my jacket. The breweries that we visited were:
Capital Ale House: The tour and tasting started here and the group met downstairs. They have over a 100 taps, but our tasting was narrowed down to three. My favorite of the three was from Mad Fox Brewery. It was crisp, refreshing, with a wheat finish.
Garden Grove: My favorite of the flights was the Spice Trade. I drank 2 of them. I guess I liked it.
Strangeways: I tried the Peanut Butter beer. I think it was more coffee flavored with a hint of chocolate. I take the combination of peanut butter and chocolate very seriously, and this was not even close. I drank 2 of them.
Three Notched. This place was very busy and just gave us a full pint of whatever beer we chose to save time. I’m ok with that. I chose the minute man. I liked it. I had two and lost 3 rounds of corn hole.
Overall, this is hardly a great review. It was just a great time and I highly recommend others to take the Richmond Brewery Tours.
